So today in English class today, we were put into groups and given the assignment of writing a short story that ended with the sentence, "I set the package down on a park bench and began walking." So, at the end of the class, we had to share what we had written...and this occurred:
Girl 1: So our story starts out with a girl who has her birthday tomorrow. But she is sad because her father just passed away, and has been dumped by her boyfriend because of the weight she's gained from her depression. She decides to buy a package of sleeping pills to end it all, but as she's walking home through the park, she sees a really cute guy and decides not to kill herself after all and-
Girl 2 (Girl who I have a slight crush on): *Stands up rather abruptly* Excuse me, but that is FUCKING RIDICULOUS. Haven't you all noticed that in all of our stories, we chose
men as the main character, and in the only story that had a heroine, she's just a culmination of embarrassing stereotypes??? Didn't
anyone think of portraying a woman as an actual human being? *looks directly at me*
Anyone?Me: I would love to answer your question in a thoughtful and sensitive manner. Unfortunately your heated outburst just now has rendered me completely speechless, a little bit afraid, and more than slightly turned on. B/*
*This was not said out loud, just thought at the time.
...go me. |Dd;
